Information About the Topic
Basic Information
  • Our topic is about the planets of the universe and is targeted at year 5 students.
  • The subject area that our topic covers is science.

Lesson Plans and Tasks
  • The lesson plans will run over a course of 4 weeks, with 2 lessons per week (total of 8 lessons).
  • Each lesson will approximately last 2 hours each.
  • Throughout the course of the 4 weeks, the students will be learning about the different planets of the solar system and in the end will be given one planet to research.
  • They will also have to create a digital presentation to present at the end of the lesson.

Curriculum Alignment
  • The lesson plans link to the Australian Curriculum for year 5 students as it is linked to Science- Earthaus curric.PNG and Space.
  • As you can see on the right, based upon the curriculum, the task seems to cover the requirements necessary for year 5 students.

Technology and Final Product
The students will be using a range of different technologies such as:
  • Canva (poster making, to talk about what they want to learn and reflect on what they have learnt)
  • PowerPoint (to present their findings)
  • MindMaster (preparation for their research)

Authentic Learning Elements
Down below are the nine authentic learning elements taken from Jan Herrington's website.

1. Authentic Contexts- Knowledge that is used in real life.
2. Authentic tasks and activities- Making sure they are provided.
3. Expert performances- Providing access and modelling these.
4. Multiple roles- Seeing things from different perspectives.
5. Collaborative construction of knowledge- Supporting this within a classroom.
6. Reflection- Dealing with different ideas.
7. Articulation- Students are able to explain their knowledge.
8. Coaching and scaffolding- The teacher gives the student support throughout the learning process.
9. Authentic assessment- This should be done within the tasks.

A description of how the elements are addressed in our project can be found on the lesson plan page.
